Can Do Partnerships Safeguarding Policy

1. Introduction

Can Do Partnerships is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults. As a limited company providing bespoke training, supervision, and consultation to multi-agency professionals, we recognise our duty to ensure robust safeguarding measures are in place. This policy sets out our approach to safeguarding, ensuring that all professionals engaged by Can Do Partnerships adhere to statutory requirements and best practices.

2. Purpose and Scope

This policy applies to all trainers, consultants, and associates working under or on behalf of Can Do Partnerships. It outlines the responsibilities, procedures, and actions required to prevent harm and respond to safeguarding concerns appropriately.

3. Key Principles

  • Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

  • All individuals have the right to be protected from harm, abuse, and neglect.

  • All concerns must be taken seriously and responded to appropriately.

  • Confidentiality must be maintained, but safeguarding concerns will be reported in line with legal and ethical obligations.

  • Training and consultation should empower professionals to act in the best interests of children and vulnerable adults.
     

4. Safeguarding Children and Young People
4.1 Legal Framework

Can Do Partnerships ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including:

  • The Children Act 1989 & 2004

  • Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018)

  • Keeping Children Safe in Education (2023)
     

4. Safeguarding Children and Young People

Independent professionals engaged by Can Do Partnerships may come across safeguarding concerns during training, supervision or consultation. In such cases, they must:

  1. Listen carefully and take the concern seriously.

  2. Record relevant details factually and objectively.

  3. Report concerns to the appropriate safeguarding lead within the organization they are working with.

  4. If the concern relates to immediate danger, contact emergency services (999) or the local authority safeguarding team.
     

5. Safeguarding Adults at Risk
5.1 Legal Framework
Can Do Partnerships follow statutory guidance under:

  • The Care Act 2014

  • Mental Capacity Act 2005

  • Safeguarding Adults: Roles and Responsibilities in Health and Care Services
     

5.2 Recognising and Reporting Abuse
Trainers may come across situations where an adult is at risk due to neglect, exploitation, or abuse.
In such cases, they should:

  • Ensure the individual’s immediate safety by contacting emergency services if necessary.

  • Encourage the individual to seek support and provide relevant information on accessing help.

  • Report concerns to the appropriate safeguarding lead or adult safeguarding team.

  • Respect confidentiality, unless sharing information is necessary to protect the individual.

6. Responsibilities of Independent Trainers and Consultants
All trainers and consultants engaged by Can Do Partnerships are expected to:

  • Understand and comply with this safeguarding policy.

  • Complete safeguarding training as required.

  • Report safeguarding concerns promptly in accordance with this policy.

  • Maintain professional boundaries and safeguard their own wellbeing in challenging situations.
     

7. Safer Recruitment and Vetting
Can Do Partnerships ensure all trainers and consultants:

  • Provide proof of identity and professional qualifications.

  • Hold valid professional indemnity insurance.

  • Have an enhanced DBS check (updated within the last two years).

  • Agree to comply with safeguarding policies and procedures.
     

8. Confidentiality and Information Sharing
While confidentiality is key, safeguarding concerns override the duty of confidentiality. Can Do Partnerships follow GDPR and statutory guidance when handling personal data. Information will only be shared when necessary to protect individuals from harm.

9. Managing Allegations Against Professionals
If concerns arise about a professional engaged by Can Do Partnerships:

  1. The concern will be reported to the Director and Designated Safeguarding Lead.

  2. If appropriate, referrals will be made to the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) or safeguarding board.

  3. Any criminal concerns will be reported to the police.

  4. Support will be offered to affected individuals.
     

10. Policy Review and Compliance
This policy will be reviewed annually or in response to changes in legislation. All staff and associates will be informed of any updates.
